The 124 is a re-engineered Mazda Miata. Very different overall feel, but probably 80% Mazda parts. That's good, since the Miata has a great reputation for reliability. (Consumer Reports says the FIat 500L is the least reliable new car sold in the U.S.)
I can't speak to sales, but service was excellent. I was driving my Mom's fiat 500 for the week and noticed a metallic noise in the rear of the car. Berlin got me in the next day, did the diagnoses while I waited, and provided me with a loaner so I could get back to work while they fixed the issue (warped discs.) Ryan M, my service advisor, was particularly helpful. There were comfortable chairs, tables and free wi-fi for the time I was in there, so I didn't loose much time that day at all. Long story short, they were on the ball. Recommended.
The Fiat 124 is made in Japan, on the same assembly line as the new Miata. Fiat supplies their own turbo engine, different suspension parts and tuning and very different styling and body panels. It uses a different transmission, but it is a Mazda trans from the prior version of the Miata.
The salesman was either ridiculously uninformed about the car or he was just completely lying on purpose. Not too shocking at a dealership, but still worth putting in a Google review.
Italian styling influences and suspension tuning might be your choice, but don't let the salesman tell you it's all Italian.
After I mentioned it was mostly Miata, with Fiat's changes on top of the Mazda design, he said it is an Italian car and there is nothing Japanese about it.
I offered to open the door and hood and point out the plate or decal that showed it was made in Japan. He said this top-down car, in the showroom, had the alarm on and I should not open the door.
The salesman told me the car had been developed by Maserati. I told him I had read many reviews of the 124 and the new Miata, and Maserati was never mentioned as having contributed anything to the 124.
I went to Berlin City Fiat in Williston to look at the new Fiat 124 Spider.
I had owned a Saab 9-2X Aero. It was a re-engineered Subaru WRX that was sold by Saab. The deal was forced by GM when it owned all or both of the two companies. Nice car, like the 124, but it was never postured as a real Swedish car.
What a fun car!!!
Went to Berlin City Fiat dealer today. What a joke. Went to look at a specific Abarth as I was very interested in purchasing it. A man in a suit with a very arrogant attitude, puffing his chest out and stating that he was the new general manager was a joke. He stated that he arranged all the keys and after 4 trips inside could not find the right key!!! You lost a sale today and a customer for life. I will never buy another vehicle from them as well as never recommend to my friends. Buyer beware of this idiot! The only good salesman that was ever there is Mike "The Doctor" RIP MIKE.
3-star rating because I didn't buy or have a car maintained here, so I am not trashing the dealership because of one talk with a salesman.
